Plant protection products are preparations to protect plants and cultured products including biocidal products.
Plant protection products are intended to
- protect plants or plant products against all harmful organisms or prevent the action of such organisms,
- influence the life processes of plants, other than as a nutrient, (e.g. growth regulators),
- preserve plant products,
- destroy undesired plants,
- destroy parts of plants, check or prevent undesired growth of plants,
- destroy undesired plants.
The assessment for the placing on the market of plant protection products and the approval of active substances which compose them is strictly regulated and harmonized at EU level by Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.
